After trailing at halftime on Sunday afternoon, the Kansas State Women’s Basketball team came away with their seventh victory of the season over Oral Roberts, 53-47. The Wildcats were led in scoring by Breanna Lewis with 22 points, 14 of which came in the second half.
Play of the 1st Half: Though the Wildcats trailed for a majority of the first half, Jessica Sheble made a big play to end the half as she tipped in a Kindred Wesemann missed three pointer to bring the deficit to just 10 points at the half.
Halftime Thoughts: The Wildcats really struggled to close out the three point line in the first half and allowed Oral Roberts to make six of their nine three point attempts. If they want any chance to win this game, they will need to shut down the Golden Eagles’ shooting from distance.
Player of the Game: There is no way it could be anyone, but Lewis. Lewis was a force all afternoon long offensively and did a great job defensively. Lewis blocked five shots and recorded three steals in an impressive performance on both sides of the floor.
Game-Defining Event: The Wildcats struggled to open the second half and went down 31-18 three minutes into the half. Brianna Craig scored 7 of her 8 points in the next 9 minutes and helped the Wildcats tie the game 35-35 with 8:25 left in the game. The Cats didn’t look back from there as they were able to take control after the run and finish off the Golden Eagles with a 7-point victory.
Up Next: The next women’s basketball game will be next Saturday in Bramlage Coliseum at 1 p.m. as the Wildcats will take on the Grambling State Tigers.
