#1 Loretta Lynch confirmed as newest US Attorney General
Loretta Lynch was confirmed in a 56-43 vote Thursday after a five-month long political squabble. Congressional republicans have held Lynch’s nomination over several political disputes including the president’s immigration executive action. Lynch has been called the most qualified nominee in history for the attorney general position.
#2 More Brownback budget cuts
Kansas Governor Sam Brownback is proposing $72 million in spending cuts to make up for next year’s predicted $400 million dollar budget shortfall. Currently on the chopping block are bond payments for the National Bio-Agro Defense Facility, and Medicaid. Brownback also wants to increase fees to Kansas hospitals.
#3 European Union increases aid to prevent migrants crossing the Mediterranean
After more than 800 pe0ple are believed to have died after a migrant vessel capsized in the Mediterranean, the EU has pledged additional ships and resources to help prevent people attempting the dangerous trips.
#4 Royals fight. Royals win.
For the third straight outing, Royals pitcher Yordano Ventura has been in the middle of bench clearing incidents. In the latest incident Thursday night, Ventura and four other players were ejected. All of this comes after Ventura signed a five-year $23 million contract with the Royals. Despite heavy ejections, the Royals still won 3-2.
#5 Comcast and Time Warner Cable no longer flirting with marriage
Amid concerns from the US government, Comcast has dropped its deal to buy Time Warner Cable for $45.2 billion dollars. FCC chairman Tom Wheeler has called the move in the best interest of consumers.
#6 I scream for ice cream recall
A second Ice Cream company has issued a recall over concerns of possible contamination. Earlier in the week Blue Bell Creameries of Texas had to recall its products over listeria illnesses in four states. Now, Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams of Ohio is recalling its products over the same concerns. It is not yet known if the two cases are related.
#7 Photo released in conjunction with Riley County fraud investigation
Riley County Police released the picture of a person wanted for questioning in relation to several incidences of fraud in the Manhattan area. Anyone with information is asked to contact RCPD at 785-537-2112.
#8 Man made earthquakes increasing
According to a recent US geological service study, the number of earthquakes has increase dramatically over the past few years within the central and eastern US. In some places, scientists have found that they increase in seismic activity coincides with the injection of wastewater in deep disposal wells.
#9 Second Pocket Shark found
No, it’s not a tiny shark that will fit in your pocket. It is, however, a rare species of shark that has an opening, or pocket, just above its pectoral fin. This particular specimen was still a juvenile when it died.

While the Expo has already settled on “2015 Manure Expo: Manure than you can handle!”, the event’s organizers are looking for some help filling the back of the T-Shirts with the top ten crappiest slogans. Entries include:
