Solange pays homage to her Home–something a Kansan can appreciate!
WAY TO THE SHOW
Lover of “Dreams” and Houston native released her fourth studio album! When I Get Home is a thirty-nine minute visual project and proud “Show and Tell” of Black Cowboy Culture.
DOWN WITH THE CLIQUE
Features from Gucci Mane & Devin the Dude are included in When I Get Home! This love letter includes MANY interludes that define the sound of this project!
Solange collaborates with Terius Nash AKA The-Dream as a composer and lyricist of Almeda & Binz (videos below).
Jazz at the core, Sampha returns for a follow up of Don’t Touch My Hair to compose Time (is)–my favorite of 19 tracks. This project is more of a vibe than lyrics. Each song flows without noticing a track change.
Tyler, the Creator and Steve Lacy provide several vocals on various tracks.
Solange directed and edited her Texas film with her husband, award winning director Alan Ferguson. Kansas native, Janelle Monae introduced Alan to Solange, they have been married since 2014.
I’M A WITNESS
A predominately African American community, known as the Third Ward has had some notable entertainment personalities come from the area including Debbie Allen and Phylicia Rashad .
Solange’s father, former Destiny’s Child Manager Matthew Knowles, is a media entertainment professor at Texas Southern University–a historically black university in the area.
Cowboys and images of the Third Ward permeate the project.
She states on Instagram,”Thank u to all the black cowboys in the land who have put your bodies on the line time and time again to write history since the beginning of time. I learned so much from all of you and feel infinite gratitude for you trusting in me.”
The Almeda visual for When I Get Home is so well put together–still can’t be washed Away, Not EVEN IN THAT FLORIDA WATER!
So if you Don’t Get it… YOU JUST DONT GET IT!
