MANHATTAN, Kan. — The Museum of Art and Light, which opened just over a month ago off of Pierre and 3rd street is transforming the local art scene with its cutting-edge approach to showcasing digital art. The museum’s innovative galleries provide a physical platform for digital creators to display their work, including Grant Yun, a trailblazing artist whose path into the art world is as unconventional as it is inspiring.
Yun, who holds a doctorate in medicine from the Medical College of Wisconsin, began his artistic journey using Microsoft PowerPoint.
"When I first started digital art, I wanted to be a better artist but didn’t have the means to pay for paint or the space in my apartment for canvases," Yun explained. “Digital seemed like the best way to create more art."
What began as simple vector shapes has evolved into intricate, story-driven works that reflect Yun’s personal experiences and artistic growth. His creative process varies widely—some minimalist pieces, like his depiction of a cow on a green canvas, take just hours to complete, while more complex compositions can take months.
"In recent years, I’ve created more realistic artworks because now I’m trying to tell a story about myself," Yun said.
Yun’s inclusion in the Museum of Art and Light is part of an impressive career trajectory. His work has been featured globally, from exhibitions at New York’s Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) and Christie’s auction house to international showcases in South Korea, France, and Japan. In 2024 alone, Yun’s art will appear in exhibitions across four continents, including a solo show titled Growing Up in Seoul and participation in the U.S. Department of State’s Art in Embassies program in Lithuania.
Despite his global success, Yun remains focused on inspiring others through his work. "Being able to create a new generation of artists is really what I’m here for," he said.
The Museum of Art and Light continues to energize Manhattan’s art community by bridging the gap between digital innovation and traditional gallery spaces. Its inaugural exhibition highlights the potential of digital art as a medium while giving artists like Yun an opportunity to connect with audiences in new ways.
