MANHATTAN, Kan. – In collaboration with the Next Gen K-State Strategic Plan, Kansas State’s Student Governing Association (SGA) has announced that $250,000 in funding is available for students to submit proposals that could dramatically transform the outdoor areas on campus. Whether it's innovative study spots, recreational facilities, or other outdoor enhancements, students are encouraged to dream big and contribute ideas that align with K-State’s mission to promote student health and well-being.
Paige Vulgamore, Student Body President, highlighted the significance of the initiative:
"This is $250,000 that we get to use to promote student health and well-being through enhancing outdoor spaces on campus. This could be innovative study spaces, recreational facilities, or anything outdoors that brings students together."
Student Body Vice President Jack O'Malley added, "As a next-generation land-grant university, K-State is dedicated to being a health-promoting institution that cares about the well-being of all students. We want your ideas on how to make the campus a better place for everyone."
The initiative supports the university’s long-term vision of creating more engaging, functional, and accessible outdoor spaces. Students are invited to think creatively about how these funds can be utilized to foster a greater sense of community, improve student wellness, and encourage outdoor activities.
How to Get Involved
K-State students can submit their outdoor space improvement proposals through an online application form. Proposals will be evaluated based on several criteria, including feasibility, creativity, student impact, and long-term sustainability. Projects should have a clear plan with minimal financial details and focus on enhancing the outdoor experience on campus for all students.
Key evaluation criteria include:
Project Overview/Financial Data: A detailed plan with a breakdown of costs.
Feasibility: The practicality and likelihood of successful implementation.
Student Impact: The extent to which the project benefits student health and well-being.
Creativity: Originality in how the space will be used.
Sustainability: The long-term potential of the project, including plans for future maintenance.
Submission Deadline
Students have until midnight on November 1st to submit their proposals. The top submissions will be invited to collaborate with SGA leaders and university administration to refine their ideas and explore financial feasibility.
