Kansas State Women’s Basketball (8-1) comes in ranked 13 this week in the Women’s College Basketball AP Poll. K-State dropped four spots compared to last week's ranks thanks to a tough loss to No. 8 Duke. The Wildcats however did hold their ground at 12 in the USA Today Coaches Poll. This week is the first week of the NET rankings for college basketball, and the Wildcats come in at No. 11. This is yet again another week in the top 15 for Jeff Mittie’s Wildcats.
“I think it's a good place to be right now,” Mittie said in his opening question on his weekly radio show. “We’ve had a good, I think, solid start to the year. We’ve done some good things and I think offensively we are starting to come around.”
The Wildcats have been on a dominant run besides the one slip up against Duke. Outscoring opponents 620-340 through the nine games this season.
Bracketology Breakdown
The Wildcat bracketology is more of the same as last week. K-State remained a four-seed in most bracketologies. A four-seed would end up meeting the one-seed in the Sweet Sixteen if the Wildcats were to advance that far. It is still a long way out but as of right now, the Wildcats would be hosting.
Big 12 Rankings Rundown
The Big 12 rankings got a little shook up since last week. TCU had a major upset win over Notre Dame, this boosted the Horned Frogs up in the Polls. Here are the rankings in order (AP Poll, USA Today Coaches Poll, NET rankings): TCU (9, 13, 5), K-State (13, 12, 11), West Virginia (15, 14, 10), and Iowa State (20, 19) not coming in the top 25 for the NET.
Future Focus
A Look Ahead at the K-State Schedule
A hefty conference schedule still looms on the horizon for the Wildcats, but the non-con has been sweet nectar. Dominating on both sides of the basketball, ranking second in the nation with assists per game, top 20 in allowed points per game, top 15 in scoring offense, and fifth in the nation in field goal percentage. The Wildcats hope to carry this hot streak onto their next game at home against USC-Upstate. This game and every other home game will be aired live on Wildcat 91.9 FM.
