MANHATTAN, Kan. — This week, Evan Drake an Air Force ROTC Cadet joined Dawson Wagner on the Morning Mix-Up. He shared his journey through the ROTC program and how it has not only prepared him for his future career but also provided him with unforgettable experiences and a deep sense of camaraderie.

Drake's typical day as an ROTC cadet is a blend of rigorous physical training and academic pursuits. "We start our day at 5 a.m. with PT, followed by classes on air strategy and what it means to be an officer," Drake explained. Despite the demanding schedule, he appreciates the balance ROTC offers between military training and college life. "It's the best of both worlds," he said.

This summer, Drake participated in several training programs that pushed his limits and broadened his horizons. One standout experience was the FreeFall program at the United States Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs. Over two weeks, he completed five solo jumps, earning his jump wings. "It was one of the most terrifying yet rewarding experiences," Drake recalled, noting how it helped him overcome his fear of heights.

Drake's dedication and hard work paid off during "drop night," a pivotal moment for ROTC seniors when they learn their future assignments. Drake was thrilled to be selected as a pilot, a goal he has pursued since childhood. "I've wanted to fly since I was a kid," he shared with excitement.

Beyond his personal achievements, Drake values the friendships and support network he has built within the ROTC program. "I've made friends for life here," he said. The sense of community was evident during drop night, where classmates celebrated each other's successes with confetti poppers and cheers.

Looking ahead, Drake is ready to embrace the challenges and opportunities that come with being an Air Force officer. His experiences this summer have not only prepared him for his role but also reinforced his commitment to serving his country.

As he prepares to graduate and commission as a second lieutenant, Drake reflects on the journey that brought him here. "The Air Force has taken care of me," he said, expressing gratitude for the scholarships and training that have paved the way for his future.

Evan Drake's story is one of determination, adventure, and camaraderie—a testament to the transformative power of the ROTC program in shaping future leaders.
