Music Rotation Wednesdays: March 20, 2019

New in Rotation (3-20-19)

Personal, intimate, and dreamy are the words that come to mind as I go on a journey with SASAMI through this release. The indie singer-songwriter that has spent quite a while with fan-favorite Cherry Glazerr captures her past year of self-discovery, making her debut album a memorable one.

Shy Boys – Dim The Light / Brick By Brick [Single]

Kansas City’s own Shy Boys are already back with a few singles, following up their 2018 release, Bell House. The quick, bright guitars, and falsetto vocals on “Dim The Light” remind me of some late 60’s or early 70’s pop. Then, the immediate and unexpected  pivot to “Brick by Brick” brings them to a trippy and minimalistic sound, highlighting more of their lyricism.

Radiant Baby – Restless

Whether it be the cover, or the music itself; just about everything from this album screams 80’s. Funky bass-lines and synthetic percussion fill out the instrumentals to create new and fun electro-pop that everyone can dance to.

Julia Jacklin – Crushing

With each track telling a separate story, Julia’s songwriting does all the work on her second album. Stripped back instrumentals on songs like “Body,” allow her to be as revealing and human as she wants. Julia does a great job at creating beautiful music that’s also dangerous for your emotions.

Living Hour – Softer Faces

Super slow, hypnotic instrumentals are all throughout Living Hour’s second release. Their simplicity is gorgeous, and effective at creating the true essence of dream-pop.
