New In Rotation (3-14-17)
The Shins – Heartworms
The band everyone knows for their single off of their 2001 debut (Oh, Inverted World), “New Slang,” is about as consistent as it gets as far as folk rock bands go. They’ve had four solid albums since their acclaimed debut.
Your Old Droog – Packs
The Ukrainian-American rapper from New York reminds of underground hip hop king, MF DOOM. In a slow year for hip hop thus far, this record from Your Old Droog is among the front of the pack.
Laura Marling – Semper Femina
Laura Marling sprinkles her beautiful voice all over this record although we only recommend her in small doses as the whole album at once can feel a little somber.
ShitKid – EP 2
The name of this artist gives a good hint as to what you’re going to get. This lo-fi noise pop group from Sweden reminds of many riot grrrl artists currently played by KSDB.
Porter Ray – Waltercolor
The newest signee to SUB POP Records brings us his alternative R&B debut.
1. Los Campesinos – Sick Scenes
No, they’re not from Spain (Wales actually) Los Campesinos! bring a very refreshing indie noise pop brand of music.
2. NE-HI – Offers
This surf pop group has been compared to artists like Twin Peaks, and that can only be good news for fans of good alternative.
3. Vagabon – Infinite Worlds
The brilliant Laetitia Tamko does it all on one of the better records of 2017 thus far.
4. Pissed Jeans – Why Love Now
KSDB doesn’t play many artists like Pissed Jeans who draw from both hardcore punk and noise rock. Needless to say, when a good record like this comes along, it’s hard to pass up.
5. Thundercat – Drunk
The man behind the best record of 2015 (To Pimp A Butterfly) by the best rapper in hip hop, Kendrick Lamar, is returning for his fourth studio island. Few artists produce such a beautiful soul funky jazz sound in this day and age. Thundercat has collaborated with artists such as Flying Lotus, Erika Badu, and Ty Dolla $ign.
