New to our rotation is a singer/songwriter from Oakland, California, Jay Som, her sound could best be described as lo-fi which creates a sleep guitar atmosphere. Turn Into is the new upcoming album from this singer/songwriter. She created a lasting impression with her single “The Bus Song” off her upcoming album, Everybody Works. Jay Som brings a refreshing style of dreampop to fans of that genre. Even in her more guitar driven track, “1 Billion Dogs,” she still maintains that dream-like atmosphere. If you’re into lo-fi dreampop, then check out Jay Som’s new album. The 3 minute track “Drown” is a personal standout for me. When I listen to the track, it’s like her soft voice is carried on a wave of reverb guitar. Some artists that she has been compared to include Japanese Breakfast, Castlebeat, Field Mouse, and fellow artist from Oakland Hazel English.
My concluding thoughts in regards to Jay Som is that this an artist that will leave you in a relaxed mood while listening to her unique sound that sets her apart for many of today’s indie artists. We at 91.9 KSDB definitely recommend you listen to her new album.
