Shawn is a DJ that has truly given his all to this station. While on-air you can hear the passion in his voice as he introduces his favorite artists. We wanted you to get to know a little bit more about Shawn, so we asked him a few questions.
1. What artists are you currently listening to and why?
I’m a really big country fan and am always listening to Reba McEntire because she is my inspiration and the songs she sings are like a story about how my life has been. I also like pop music–I like Lady Gaga and love her song Born This Way. I also listen to Shaina Twain, Faith Hill and Celine Dion.
2. Are you involved in any other campus or community organizations?
I’m the President of the LGBT and Allies group here at Kansas State University. Being in this group is really great. We are here to support each other and it’s a safe place to meet other LGBT students.
3. Why did you choose to come to K-State?
I chose to go to K-State to pursue my dream and to be the first one in my family to even go to college. I saw that Kansas State University had a really good program in Journalism and Mass Communications. At the age of 13 I dreamed about being a part of the Wildcat family. I’m also a student who has a learning disability so to have the chance to be a part of the Wildcat family is great. The first day I showed up for my campus visit, I learned about K-State and saw how every student and staff member is here to support you in your college years.
4. What is your favorite part about being a DJ at 91.9 KSDB?
It’s been a really great time working with KSDB. I am so glad that they have a student-run station for us students to get training in radio. We have such great stuff. I’m so happy that I’ve been part of 9.19 and had chance to shine and a chance to be part of something that could go a long way.
