Jace and Avery are the hosts for “The Beat” which airs Wednesdays at 9:00 a.m.
Hometown, year, and major
Avery: Winfield, Kansas, Senior and I’m in Broadcast Journalism
Why did you join KSDB?
A: I joined KSDB because I have been very involved with many different aspects of media at K-State, but never done anything with radio. I wanted to see what a different medium was like and see if I liked it.
What made you want to start “The Beat”?
A: Jace Mills and I discussed it and thought it’d be fun, He, too, is very involved with the broadcasting portion of the mass communications school so it was a chance for both of us to see what the radio aspect of K-State was all about.
What have you learned so far from working at KSDB?
A: I have learned that it is more than just talking into a mic for your allotted time slot. It’s running the board, picking songs and making sure all your levels are turned up to the right spot. It’s a challenge at times since I’m new, but I’ve learned so much just in the three weeks we’ve been doing the show.
What is your favorite part about working at KSDB?
A: I like meeting new people and most of the people in radio I didn’t know before. To get those relationships and see what they want to do in their career excites me. It’s been a great experience thus far.
What are some albums/artists you’ve been listening to lately?
A: I am a huge Imagine Dragons fan so I have them playing through my earphones most of the time. If not them, generally pop music is what I listen to.
What is your favorite movie of all time?
A: I honestly don’t watch many movies so my selection is very thin, but I really like Moneyball because I am baseball fan and that movie is about a small market baseball team similar to the Royals. It’s one of those movies I could watch anywhere, anytime.
