Bring Me The Horizon is compiled of 5 British artists, Oli Sykes, Lee Malia, Matt Kean, Matt Nicholls and Jordan Fish. Fans have waited for this album since their 2015 release of “That’s The Spirit” when vocalist Oli Sykes blew out his vocal chords and decided to mellow out their music to accommodate his situation.
BMTH released their teaser song for the album “MANTRA” in early 2019 and left their fans desperately wanting more of their post hardcore noise with an alternative pop twist. Amo consists of a more mellow, truth telling, sound than their last albums. Their sound change has been met with praise and backlash. With some implying it as an insincere way to keep their careers alive after the lead singer lost what make his voice unique in the post hardcore music scene. However others reacted with overwhelming support, seeing their new sound as a right of passage as an artist with their music maturing.
One of their songs on the album that stuck out to me in particular would be “heavy metal.” The songs lyrics show the bands progression from hardcore to post and alternative and how fans reacted. They discussed in this song how the feel as if they had lost their lack luster, and quoting a fan from instagram saying “[I] used to be a fan but this shit ain’t heavy metal.”
Bring Me The Horizon keeps their energy up in this album and wows their dedicated fans (such as myself) into playing their songs on repeat for days.
