I have always been a fan of the Alien movies, even the newer crumby ones. So of course I had to give Alien: Covenant a shot. There had been speculation for awhile whether or not Prometheus was a prequel to the original Alien. Well, there is no denying now that definitely was a prequel. Michael Fassbender returns for this sequel. The only other actor I was familiar with was Danny McBride. I knew if this movie came close to as good as Prometheus, I would be in for an entertaining 2 hours.
The movie’s protagonists are on a space ship, or “colonization vessel”, named Covenant. The year is 2104, and the ship has a crew of 15 with 2000 colonists in deep sleep ready to colonize the newly discovered planet named Origae-6. The journey is to take over 7 years. Without spoiling the movie, on the way to their destination, they pick up a transmission from the Prometheus ship on a planet undiscovered. They investigate, and that is where the plot unfolds.
Throughout the movie, the crew is faced with many challenges; some harder than others. There are twists and turns that keep you on your toes, along with some good jump scares. The cinematography was fantastic in the movie as well. There were a lot of pretty sceneries. Michael Fassbender was just as good as in Prometheus. Danny McBride came in with some good laughs here and there during slower scenes. I enjoyed the movie and would recommend it to anyone who liked Prometheus or likes deep space movies. I would give this movie a 4 out of 5.
