KSDB Alum Spotlight: Willy Evans

Name: Willy Evans
Twitter: @hipster_willy
Position at KSDB/name of show (if applicable): Production Director/The Garage/The Classroom Series/The Movie Madhouse/DJ Tanner. I worked in music, sports, promotion, underwriting, engineering, and anything else they would let me do.
Years at the station: 2013-2015

How did you get involved with KSDB?
The station manager at the time came to one of my intro mass comm classes and they seemed way more fun than The Collegian or Wildcat Watch (they are).

Favorite part about the station/favorite memory?
Definitely working on The Garage with Nick Fief and Kari Bingham-Gutierrez. Discovering and getting to meet artists is the best. Also because I was a townie getting to DJ over breaks for 3-4 hours at a time was a blast. I also got recognized a couple times around town which was a kind of surreal experience.

What are you doing now?
I’m working for a Plumbing/Heating/AC company in KC called Bob Hamilton. I create their video marketing material. I’m also volunteering at KKFI in KC and have a movie coming out in a couple months.

What have you learned from working with KSDB? How does that helped you with your current job?
The repetition and very real world experience of on air hosting, audio editing, and sound recording gave me a ton of experience that my employers have loved. I also gained a lot of contacts that I still use every day.

What advice would you give to the current staff/DJs?
Work hard and have fun. There aren’t many places like KSDB left. Enjoy it but do whatever you have to to keep it alive.
